The Propeller (in the foreground)

Considered as anticipating the helicopter, Leonardo da Vinci's flying propeller reveals his great knowledge of aerodynamics. Here, he combines several technical insights: the effect of the infinite movement of the screw, the behavior of air as a supporting force and the optimization of materials to be used (starched fabric and canes). Thanks to its fast rotation, the propeller should be able to go up in the air.

It is supposed that Leonardo da Vinci built this propeller as a small-scale model. For the full-scale version, there was the problem of the motor. In his time, there was no driving force capable of making this machine work.
