Caracassonne01 This is supposedly Madame Carcas. There's a tale about how a woman saved the town from besieging forces and therefore, the town was named Carcassonne after her. However, historians don't give much credence to this story. It's more valuable as a tourist gimmick to sell post cards and souvenirs.
