Ecco Homo
by Antonio Allegri
Oil on canvas

This is a refined copy, probably executed towards the end of the 16th century, of a picture by the Emilian painter Antonio Allegri, called Correggio, who painted it about 1525-28. It is now in the National Gallery of London.

In the narration of the Passion (John 19, 4-6) Ecco Homo (Behold the Man) are the words uttered by Pilate while showing Christ to the Hebrew priests; before the Savior is the afflicted figure of Mary.
