The Column of July (Colonne de Juillet) located on the Place de la Bastille

The column dates back to July 28, 1840, and was build in order of King Louis-Philippe (1773 – 1850) who wanted a monument to commemorate both the French revolution of 1789 (also known as the storming of the Bastille) and the "three glorious days" of the July revolt in 1830.

The plate on the base of the column has written:

“With the glory of the French citizens who armed themselves and fought for the defense of public freedoms in the memorable days of the 27, 28, July 29, 1830”. The barrel of the column bears the name of the victims of the revolutionary days of July 1830.
