Linda explained the different kinds of wine and liqueurs that were produced in different regions of France.

Ferdi asked which wine was the most expensive. Currently, it's wine that comes from Bordeaux.

Unlike wines in the US which are categorized by the type of grape (e.g. burgundy, chardonnay, etc) the labels in France identify the vineyard (which tells you the region) and the year. It also states whether the grapes were grown at the base of the hill, in the middle or at the top. The middle is the best because it gets just the right amount of sun.

She also explained the reason the US has bitter white wines is because we cut the oak to make barrels "wrong". We cut across the wood grain which tends to release more acid whereas the French cut along the wood grain.

I must say I agree with her. The white wines I sampled in Germany and France were much more appealing to my palette.
