At the end of WWII, food was scarce and the people hungry. So they just used whatever material they had to make little garden plots and whatever land was available to grow vegetables -- even if that land happen to be within the grounds of an imperial palace.

Today, the "tradition" just continues.

The statue in the background is of Archduke Charles of Austria, Duke of Teschen.



The juxtaposition between these two is what I thought was most interesting about this shot.
