oban01 Oban is a ferry town on the southwestern coast of Scotland. It's the un-official capital of Western Scotland. Some of the most important citizens were Hugh and John Stevenson. They were called the founding fathers of the town. Another important and powerful family was the McCaig's. John McCaig built the tower (coliseum) as a monument to his family and to employ local, out-of-work stone masons.
