Martin explained to us the chorus of the famous song 'Bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond':

O ye’ll tak’ the high road and I’ll tak’ the low road,
And I’ll be in Scotland afore ye.
But me and my true love will never meet again,
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o’ Loch Lomond.

He said that most people suppose it's about two blokes that come to a fork in the road and were deciding on the best route to Scotland. In fact, it was two men in an English prison. One of them was going to die. In the old vernacular, this was to take the 'low road'. The one who would live would take the 'high road' (i.e. on the surface). But the dead man would get to Scotland first because his soul had no impediments. But he would never see his true love (Scotland) on the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
