The Pediment Sculptures from the East entrance of the Parthenon.

From Right to Left:

1. A girl moves rapidly away from the center, her drapery flying out behind. She may represent Hebe, cup-bearer of Zeus, who was shown on the middle of the pediment.

2. Two goddesses seated on chests, perhaps Demeter (right) and Persephone. Demeter is disturbed by the figure to the right, while her companion is still at rest.

3. A naked youth reclines on a rock, cushioned by the skin of a feline animal. He is probably Dionysos, god of wine. His missing right hand perhaps held a cup.

4 and 5. The head, arms and shoulders of the sun-god Helios emerge out of the sea at dawn. His chariot is to be imagined as still under water. The heads of four horses were once visible, of which two are shown here.
