V&A Rotunda Chandelier

Blown glass and steel
American, by Dale Chihuly (b.1941)
2001

This sculpture is one of a number of works entitled Chandelier, a series which Chihuly began in 1992, drawing on the Venetian chandelier for his initial inspiration. With this work he has explored the form's space-changing potential.

The V&A Rotunda Chandelier was made specifically for the Museum's main entrance dome by Chihuly and his team in the Chihuly hotshop, Seattle. On its installation it was the largest chandelier made by Chihuly. It is 8.1 meters (27") high and weights 1724 kilos (3800 lbs).
