housesteads09 The Latrines The men’s latrine was a stone building in the southwest corner of the fort. Inside wooden seats were arranged along the walls. A stone channel in front of each bench carried the water for washing sponges--the Roman equivalent of toilet paper. The water from the channels flushed the sewers under the seating and discharged further down the hillside.
