Statue of Prince Albert (1819-61)
by the Grangemouth Terracotta Works, Grangemouth, Scotland

Prince Albert is represented in the uniform of a Field Marshall of the British Army worn before 1855. Recent research indicates that John Wornell, who was employed by the Grangemouth Coal Company, visited Windsor to show his work to the Prince Consort in 1843 - 44 and may have produced models for a silver inkstand for the Queen. The inscription on the base refers to John Miller, the leading china and glass merchant in the New Town of Edinburgh in the mid 19th century. Miller was based at 3 South St Andrews Street, and styled himself "Potter to her Majesty" from about 1848.
