The Sacred Spring

The hot spring rises at a rate of 1,170,000 liters (309,082 gal) each day at 46.5 deg C (115.7 deg F). The Romans used it to supply hot mineral water to the Baths. Offerings to the goddess Sulis Minerva were thrown into the Spring. A vaulted building enclosed the Spring in the later Roman period.

The King's Bath, which is visible today, was built in the 12th century AD.
